Academic Excellence

Academics are a top priority for Kappa Delta. The sorority requires that a prospective new member have a high-school grade point average of at least 3.2 (on a 4.0 scale). If she is an upperclassman or transfer student, she should have a college grade point average of at least 2.7 (on a 4.0 scale).

Kappa Delta is committed to providing members the resources they need to be their best. Kappa Delta provides an academic excellence focus designed to grow with women throughout their college years, as their needs and areas of concern evolve. Since scholastic achievement is an individual matter and campus cultures vary, our chapter’s academic-support program is customized to meet the needs of all our sisters. Programming options include tutoring, mentoring, study sessions, and incentives, as may be appropriate to the chapter. In the spirit of sisterhood, our chapter schedules group study hours and we tutor one another whenever needed.

With materials provided by the national organization, Eta Mu holds an academic-success seminar at the beginning of each term. The seminar format includes assessment, identification of barriers to achievement, individual goal-setting, and the scheduling of workshops on relevant skills. Typically these workshops are conducted by university officials with expertise in educational assistance.

To ensure that all members have the means to excel, thousands of dollars in Kappa Delta Foundation scholarships are awarded to talented thinkers and doers every year. Some of these are for general studies, while others are designated for specific fields. All members are encouraged to apply, especially those who have demonstrated academic excellence and/or financial need.
